  32. HideIt hides (surprising, ey?) any data within pics.
  33. For that purpose, the information is embedded into the rustling of other
  34. data, this means the lowest bits normally.
  35. The normal beholder/listener cant see/hear any difference, but a program
  36. like HideIt can extract the embedded data.
  37.  
  38. This is _no_ encryption and not sure to be undiscovered, either.
  39.  
  40. But in the case of forbidden strong-encryption in your country (like China
  41. or USA) you can send infos anyway without even letting know your human-
  42. right-despicing government that you want to communicate safely.
  43. You are free to pgp-encrypt your data before you embed it, only for the
  44. case that it is discoverd...

  46. Since the program is fairly young, it only supports the "IFF-24"-format
  47. _without_ packing.
  48. You can create this for example in Photogenics by choosing "IFF-24" as
  49. save-format and in its options "save as non-packed IFF" (or so, I dont
  50. know the English version).
  51. The data-format isnt that important, by the way, because you can convert
  52. any picture-format accordingly.
  53. There are planned more formats, but this is a long-winded complex process,
  54. not to compare with normal datatyes-support, so the resonance counts.

  58.       misc/sci/Wator_1.27.lha (or newer version). It's a graphics-supported
  59.       hunter-and-booty-simulation.

  88. HideIt dient dem Verstecken von Daten.
  89. Dabei werden Informationen im "Rauschen" von anderen Daten eingebettet,
  90. im allgemeinen also in die niederwertigsten Bits von Samples/Bildern.
  91. Für den normalen Betrachter bzw. Hörer sind die Veränderungen absolut
  92. nicht zu bemerken, mit dem entsprechenden Programm (z.B. diesem hier)
  93. lassen sich eingebettete Daten wieder extrahieren.

  95. Dies ist _keine_ Verschlüsselung und auch nicht 100%ig sicher vor
  96. Entdeckung! Denkbare Angriffe sind statistischer und/oder graphischer
  97. Natur.

  99. Falls aber starke Verschlüsselung auch bei uns verboten werden sollte
  100. (so wie in China, den USA oder anderen menschenrechtsverachtenden
  101. Staatsformen), kann man dann immer noch Informationen unbemerkt
  102. austauschen, indem man scheinbar harmlose Dokumente versendet oder
  103.  - besser noch, da anonymer - auf eine Webseite zum Download bereithält.
  104. Die zu versteckenden Nachrichten kann man natürlich zusätzlich noch
  105. PGP-verschlüsseln, so daß man selbst bei Entdeckung nicht viel zu
  106. verlieren hat...

  108. Da das Programm erst einige Monate in Entwicklung ist (ca. 9/10tel des
  109. Aufwandes entfallen auf die GUI :-( ), werden als Trägerdateien z.Zt.
  110. nur _ungepackte_ IFF-24-Dateien akzeptiert.
  111. Diese kann man z.B. in Photogenics erzeugen, indem man als Speicherformat
  112. "IFF-24" und in dessen Optionen "als unkomprimierte IFF-Datei speichern"
  113. anwählt.
  114. Im Prinzip ist das Trägerformat ja egal, da man jedes Bild entsprechend
  115. umwandeln kann. Dennoch ist bei einsprechender Resonanz die Unterstützung
  116. weiterer Formate geplant. Das hineinschmuggeln der Daten erfordert jedoch
  117. tiefe Eingriffe in das Dateiformat und ist deswegen mit viel Aufwand ver-
  118. bunden (im Gegensatz zu "normaler" Datatypes-Unterstützung z.B.).
